Kyrgyz-Tajik crossing point Kyzyl Art 2015

This is the pass in the Pamir highway on the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Through pass goes the road Osh-Khorog. The height of the pass is 4280 meters above sea level.

From the north, in the Alai valley, the pass is flat, where is the picturesque valley, great panoramic view of glaciers and snow peaks. The downhill from the pass to the south in a wide valley Markansu is steep.

Border crossing rules

Kyrgyz checkpoint

Passage of the border Kyzyl Art is not difficult. On the border with the Kyrgyz side, you drive up to the border, where you will be put a stamp in the passport, then pass drug control, customs and veterinary control. They can ask you to take out all the stuff and put the car on the test. Passage of the Kyrgyz post takes about 1 hour.

Passing back will be controlled more, as this is a strategic road from Afghanistan. So the passing time can be increase.

Tajik checkpoint

Passing Kyrgyz checkpoint you get in noman's land, which runs along the Kyzyl Art pass 4280 m, the distance between checkpoints is 12 km. On the other side you are expected by Tajik border guards, where you have to pass border, customs, drug and veterinary control. Tajik guards are friendly, and the passage does not take too much time. Be ready to pay for veterinary control (plants, spraying the wheels).

For entry through the checkpoint, you must have the passport, visa and Tajikistan GBAO permit. Without it, you are not allowed to enter the Tajikistan border. If you enter the territory of Tajikistan on a vehicle, you need to take permit for your car, which costs 35 $. Guards will ask you to get a roadmap, to have a permission to drive along the road. Actually, this roadmap is never checked. The price is 30$ per card. In addition, you must fill in a declaration of temporary importation of the vehicle. Samples are at the border.

In the way back you can be checked thoroughly drug control.

It is allowed to drive Kyrgyz car on nomans land to the Tajik checkpoint.

It is allowed to drive Tajik car on the nomans land to Kyrgyz checkpoint.

It is allowed to drive by bike in the border zone to checkpoint.
